The Power of the “DO OVER”
Welcome 2019! It’s a brand new year and we all get a chance at setting new goals and engaging in new projects. Reset button!! Many of us are faced with two choices- Repeating many of the negative habits that did not fulfill our choice desires in 2018 or starting over in 2019 with a fresh clean canvas using more efficient means of attaining our goals. If you repeat the negative patterns and habits of 2018, just remember that one of the greatest thinkers of our time defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different result.”
However, If you choose the latter, today is your lucky day! The great thing about life is that we can change the direction its going at anytime. We can wake up in the morning and say, “I am going to change my life, and do it!” As a young lad growing up, we would refer to this as a “Do Over”! Yes, whenever things were not going well in a particular sport or activity as a child you always had the option to yell, “DO OVER”! This is something we did as a natural course of action. It was just part of the default wiring of mines and my peers' motherboard and it served as a testimony that determination and diligence would eventually payoff!! So why have many of us abandoned this innate characteristic that allowed us to, pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again?
"When it comes to breaking old habits and starting new ones, remember to be patient with yourself. If you’ve spent twenty, thirty, or forty years or more repeating the behaviors you’re now trying to change, you’ve got to expect it’s going to take time and effort before you see lasting results.”- Darren Hardy
Today you have the power to hit the reset button and scream, “DO OVER”! If there were opportunities that you did not give 100% to last year, here is your extra quarter, extra chance at bat or chance to make it right and to really give it your best shot this time around! This time hold the image of you attaining your goal in your mind; knowing with every cell in your body you will succeed! You are winner! In addition to just trying harder this time around, analyze your failures, and explore:
A. What worked and what didn’t. Duplicate the things that worked and modify the ones that didn’t.
B. How do you ensure and maintain vigor, diligence and determination?
C. What external muses such as music, poetry or vision boards can you use to assist you in achieving your goal?
I’m a firm believer that strategic goal setting with clear intentions usually gets excellent results. That simply means, what gets measured, gets done! Hit the Red button and take action NOW! Just rest assured that this go round it will really be worth it! You can proudly, unapologetically proclaim DO OVER!!!!! This is your time. Carpe Diem!!!
